Golden Earring, Eight Miles High, Orig UK Major-Minor LP, EX/EX+ A-1L 1st Press.

Description

This is the original 1969 UK issue with the rough red Major-Minor labels, the 'JT' tax code and the earliest A-1L B-1L matrices, with the matching 1-U/1-U stampers of the earliest 1st pressings.

The fifth Dutch and first UK issued Golden Earring album was released in November 1969 and features tracks recorded that summer in London at Olympic Studios. The band had been founded by school friends in Holland in 1961. By 1967 David Hay had joined the band as vocalist and they had signed to Dutch Polydor, releasing four albums in Holland. In 1969 their fifth album Eight Miles High was released in the UK and they began touring the UK & the US, often supporting Led Zep and even Jimi Hendrix. They finally broke into the mainstream with the single Radar Love in 1973, from Moontan their fifth UK album and they toured the USA being supported by Aerosmith & Kiss for the next year, finally recording the follow up in late 1974, Switch.

The Moore & Matthes Ltd textured matt sleeve is intact & in EX condition, with some very light corner/edge wear and minimal laminate storage rubbing, with a couple of small creases on the front cover. The unlaminated rear cover has some light discolouration and storage rubbing. The spine is intact and fully readable, the plain inner is intact, with some discolouration and is in VG+ condition.

The record is in visually EX+ condition, with only a couple of faint sleeve removal hairlines and one or two light needle scuffs visible on each side, but there is a small pressing dimple on side 2 that causes a couple of low clicks. The labels are in EX+ condition, clean & bright with no evidence of spindle markings.

The sound reproduction is EX+, still clear & precise with definately no skips, sticks or jumps, but there is some very brief, low background noise during the run in grooves and two low clicks on the bass solo on side 2 caused by the pimple.
Overall, a really great, loud & lively listen.   The matrix nos. are; SLP-065-A-1L stamper 1-U, SLP-065-B-1L stamper 1-1-1. This is one of the earliest copies of the 1st pressing of the original 1969 UK stereo issue of this album.
