Description

'Sit Down Young Stranger' was released in the Spring of 1970 and was Gordon Lightfoot's first album on the Reprise Records label (RS-6392). The earliest batch of covers had no writing on the front.  When the single, "If You Could Read My Mind" became a hit, the record company decided to rename the album after the popular song.  It is Lightfoot's most successful and best selling original album....though 'Sundown' released in 1974 comes very close to matching it for popularity. The copy I am offering is not only one of the earliest pressings....but is a much coveted rare White Label Promotional copy...first among equals.  The sound of this timeless record is warm, balanced, detailed, and distortion-free.
Cover: VG(+).....minor wear to the edges....a few inoffensive creases and scuff marks.  The initials "SS" can barely be seen inscribed at the upper left corner of the front cover.  A very nice example of this earliest printed cover that is usually found in terrible condition.
Record: VG to VG+.....Nice shine to both sides. The record has good weight. The Promo labels are flawless. Under strong lights a few light hairlines and superficial scratches can be made out. The vast majority don't have any bearing on the wonderfully detailed audio.  The only momentary distraction is heard on Side 2, track 1 ("Sit Down Young Stranger") when a few ticks are heard in some parts of the song...but not enough to lessen the enjoyment.
