Gorefest – False (1992) Released in 1992, False is the second full-length album from Dutch death metal heavyweights Gorefest. Building upon the raw brutality of their 1991 debut Mindloss, False saw the band refining their sound, incorporating thicker production, sharper songwriting, and a more groove-laden approach while maintaining their relentless aggression.
Musically, False stands out with crushingly heavy riffs, mid-tempo grooves, and deep, guttural vocals from frontman Jan-Chris de Koeijer. The album strikes a perfect balance between old-school death metal’s intensity and the emerging death 'n' roll sound, a style Gorefest would explore further on later albums. Tracks like “The Glorious Dead” and “State of Mind” highlight the band’s ability to write pummeling yet memorable songs, while “From Ignorance to Oblivion” delivers a sinister, doom-infused atmosphere.
Lyrically, False diverges from typical death metal gore themes, instead tackling political and social issues, giving the album an added layer of depth.
