Groundhogs, Split, original UK stereo press LP.

Their third studio LP recorded at De Lane Lea Studios, London, in November 1970 and released in March 1971. The band were touring for much of the rest of the year with the Rolling Stones and the album reached no.5 in the UK charts. The album was their best selling to date and earned them a gold disc after spending 27 weeks in the charts. The side 2 track Cherry Red was recorded in a single take and the lyrics for Split, were about a panic attack Tony McPhee had suffered from in May 1970.

This is the original issue with the black Liberty labels, the A-1U B-1U matrices and the 2-GG 1-M stampers of the first presses.

The E. J. Day Group laminated gatefold sleeve is intact & in EX condition, with some very light corner/edge wear and some light laminate rubbing/scuffing on the outer cover. The spine is intact and fully readable, the plain inner is intact, discoloured & in VG+ condition.   The record is in visually VG+ condition, with a couple of faint hairlines and one or two light scuffs on side 1 and a few more faint sleeve removal hairlines and couple of needle marks/scuffs visible on side 2. The labels are in EX condition, clean & bright with evidence of few faint spindle markings on each side.   The sound reproduction is EX, still clear & precise throughout, with definately no skips, sticks or jumps, but there is some very brief background noise during the run in grooves and briefly in a couple of the quieter passages. Overall, a really clean, loud & clear listen.   The matrix nos. are; LBS-83401, A-1U stamper 2-GG, B-1U stamper 1-M. This is one of the early copies of the original 1971 UK stereo issue of this album!
