Description

Hampton Hawes chose Barney Kessel, guitar; Red Mitchell, bass; and Shelly Manne, drums for this session. All four are expert accompanists, so they enhance each as soloist in turn. A highlight in an album of highlights is Red Mitchell’s bowed bass in his own composition “Bow Jest”.

This stereophonic recording was released by Stereo Records on S7026 in 1959. The 2007 edition of the GoldMine Price Guide applied a 25% premium to this stereo album over Contemporary’s monophonic version.

The record label is black with gold printing. This is a DEEP GROOVE pressing.

I play-graded this album VG+ or better. It has bright, clean sound and a very little surface noise in quiet passages.

We listen to each record in our grading process. Our policy is that we want you to be satisfied with your purchase. If you are not, please call or email me within seven days of your receipt, and the price in full will be refunded (see details under return policy).

Visually, the vinyl is still shiny and has good luster. Under bright light, there are a few scuffs and hairline scratches. Grade is VG+.

The cover is in good condition, the photograph on the front is still clear. There is a little wear on the lower ¾ inch of the front cover. A tiny ding on the upper left corner. Even the lower edge is good. There is a faint ring around the outside of the record that shows through the back cover. But no splits, delaminating, gouges, marks, etc. Grade VG+ to VG++

We have to sell an extensive collection of carefully-selected jazz and classical music and we will be releasing albums for sale each month. If you have any questions or need information about expedited delivery or international shipping or would like to be notified when we release new LPs to auction, please email wd33dot@gmail.com.
