Description
A 33 1/3 RPM boxed set of 4 mono, vinyl LPs with a full recording of 'Messiah' by G.F Handel conducted by Sir Thomas Beecham
This was first released in April, 1960 on the RCA 'Red Seal' label.
A full recording, on 4 discs, of "Messiah" by George Frideric Handel.
Performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus, conducted by Sir Thomas Beecham, with chorus master John McCarthy.
The soloists are:- Soprano - Jennifer Vyvyan; Tenor - Jon Vickers; Contralto - Monica Sinclair; Bass - Giorgio Tozzi
Custom, hinged box in dark red with the title in gold-coloured lettering and a 'tipped in' colour plate of an angel. The spine is made to resemble a book-binding. Comes with a 24-page book with 8 'tipped in' colour plates of religious images, libretto (by Sir Thomas Beecham) and notes. The book was designed by Albert Skira for RCA's Soria Series. This was the 5th printing from 1962.

Condition
The vinyl looks VG+ to NM.
No noticeable marks or scratches. I've not played the whole thing but have chosen sections of each side and I've found no appreciable pops or surface noise, on playback, in those selections.
Box undamaged, faint edge wear. It does, however, seem to have accumulated some dirt over the years (see photo). It may well clean up, but I've not attempted it.
The is very good over all. Some of the plates are starting to become detached. There are small pen and pencil annotations. They indicate where each side begins and the elapsed playing time up to that point (see photos for an example).
The inner sleeves have light creasing, consistent with being kept in a box.
