NASHVILLE ALL STARS: AFTER THE RIOT AT NEWPORT

RCA VICTOR LPM 2302

COVER: VG+ The top edge is split and reinforced with clear tape.  There's some tape residue- but no split- to the bottom edge. Spine has a 1" split at the top.

VINYL: VG++ Very light paperscuffs only.

The story of the riot at the 1960 Newport Jazz Festival is well-known; one of the bands unable to play was this group of musicians from Nashville led by two guitarists better known for their country music, but whose jazz chops were considerable- Chet Atkins and Hank Garland.

This hard-to-find record was recorded jam-session style on the lawn of Ben Rosner, an RCA Victor executive, when it became clear that the band would not be playing Newport.

Personnel changes track by track of course, but as well as the two guitarists there's a young Gary Burton (vib), Floyd Cramer (p), Boots Randolph (sax).

A fascinating and little-known album.
