Biography
by Steve Huey
One of the Blue Note label's definitive hard bop artists, tenor saxophonist Hank Mobley remains somewhat underappreciated for his straightforward, swinging style. Any characterization of Mobley invariably begins with critic Leonard Feather's assertion that he was the "middleweight champion of the tenor saxophone," meaning that his tone wasn't as aggressive and thick as John Coltrane or Sonny Rollins, but neither was it as soft and cool as Stan Getz or Lester Young. Instead, Mobley's in-between, "round" (as he described it) sound was controlled and even, given over to subtlety rather than intense displays of emotion. Even if he lacked the galvanizing, mercurial qualities of the era's great tenor innovators, Mobley remained ... Read More...
Biography
by Steve Huey
A cornerstone of the Blue Note label roster prior to his tragic demise, Lee Morgan was one of hard bop's greatest trumpeters, and indeed one of the finest of the '60s. An all-around master of his instrument modeled after Clifford Brown, Morgan boasted an effortless, virtuosic technique and a full, supple, muscular tone that was just as powerful in the high register. His playing was always emotionally charged, regardless of the specific mood: cocky and exuberant on up-tempo groovers, blistering on bop-oriented technical showcases, sweet and sensitive on ballads. In his early days as a teen prodigy, Morgan was a busy soloist with a taste for long, graceful lines, and honed his personal style while serving an apprenticeship in Art Blakey's ... Read More...
AND, LASTLY, PLEASE DO REMEMBER SOUND QUALITY IS AFFECTED BY WHAT THE VINYL IS PLAYED ON!!!
PLEASE READ THE FINE PRINT CONDITIONS OF SALE:
GRADING & POLICIES: ALL RECORDS ARE VISUALLY GRADED AND ONLY INDICATE STATE OF VINYL (COVER NOTED SEPARATELY). IF I'VE LISTENED TO THE LP IT WILL BE NOTED. The following is a general overview about grades, subject to any above notations: MINT indicates pristine vinyl without any marks on surface. MINT MINUS may contain a few very light surface rub marks from play or sleeve wear under light. If you are a real collector, you'll know that even a factory sealed LP occasionally has some light sleeve or rub marks. Anything in the VG category would contain some light and fine surface play lines and or have some other visible signs of ring or hole wear. Rarely do I offer something in the "G" state. If I do, it's usually a rare LP and priced accordingly. Values are assigned according to market availability, rarity and my experience in the business for over 25 years, not a price guide or any other standard.
PAYMENT: PAYPAL ONLY ACCEPTED AND SHOULD BE MADE WITHIN 24 HOURS OF SALE END (IF YOU BID ON SOMETHING YOU SHOULD BE PREPARED TO PAY FOR IT). IF PAYING BY PAYPAL E-CHECK PLEASE ADVISE BEFORE BIDDING. YOUR SATISFACTION: Your positive feedback and excellent seller rating of 5 in each category is very important to me. I try to give as much detail as possible about appearance and condition. Should your purchase not meet your expectations please contact me before leaving feedback and detailed seller rating. YOUR SATISFACTION IS OF PRIME IMPORTANCE TO ME. Do you know how the Ebay Seller Ratings System works? Did you know that even a 4 rating is a bad rating for a seller? With most rating systems of 1 to 5(highest), you would expect a "4" to be a very good rating and a "5" to be an excellent/highest rating. You purchase an item on Ebay and the product, service, communications or fees were very good but not great. You give the seller all 4's thinking this is very good.(Most rating systems equate 1=lowest, 2=fair, 3=good, 4=very good, 5=highest). Unfortunately this is not how it works on EBAY as of May 2008. ONLY A "5" IS A GOOD RATING. The lowest acceptable average for each category is 4.6; below that a seller receives a "NEEDS WORK" and their standings in the listings are lowered. SURPRISING BUT TRUE AND SEEMINGLY UNFAIR.
