HAROLD LAND Grooveyard RARE 1959 Stereo LP Plays NM-
A great album from Harold Land, who played tenor sax in the Clifford Brown/Max Roach quintet in the late 1950s.
Harold Land is a fine tenorist, grounded with a big warm sound from Coleman Hawkins and Lucky Thompson; and influenced by Charlie Parker's Bebop concepts. And you can hear the year he spent on the road playing rhythm and blues.
Clifford Brown and Max Roach hired him for their quintet after they heard him in a jam session at Eric Dolphy’s house in LA. Harold stayed with them for two years, until he had to return home because of a death in his family.
This stereophonic recording session was titled “Grooveyard,” and released on Contemporary Records S7550 in 1959. The label is yellow with black printing.
The group includes, Land, leader and tenor sax; Rolf Ericson, trumpet; Carl Perkins, piano; Leroy Vinnegar, bass; and Frank Butler, drums.

I play-graded this album NM- The stereo sound is excellent throughout.

Visually, under bright light, the vinyl still has a good shine, and I picked out a few paper scuffs and some very faint hairline scratches, but nothing that sounded for the listener. I graded it VG++ to NM-.
The cover photo is excellent, bright and unworn, except faint ring wear visible for a few inches along the top and bottom of the cover. The lower left corner has a ding. The bottom edge is just starting to show a little wear. The back cover looks excellent. I would grade it NM-.
