Details: - Obscure RCA Victor Stereo Original UK issue on Glossy Orange label. The first album issued in the UK by this unconventional singer-songwriter. Hardly known name at the time of release and sold poorly. When John Lennon and Paul McCartney held a press conference in 1968 to announce the formation of Apple Corps, John was asked to name his favourite American artist. He replied, "Nilsson". Paul was then asked to name his favourite American group. He replied, "Nilsson". Matrix UPRS 5580 1E/UPRS 5581 3E
Typical 60`s Whimsy/Psych Includes several self-written songs and some covers, including a couple by The Beatles (one an arrangement that quotes twenty other Beatles lyrics) and gives an early indication of his unusual vocal abilities. Nilsson`s `Ten Little Indians` was later covered by the Yardbyrds with Jimmy Page creating some classic effects
Interesting Trivia - Nilsson's 1970's London flat, at Flat #12, 9 Curzon Street on the edge of Mayfair, was lent to numerous musician friends while he was away. During one of his absences, ex-Mamas and Papas singer Cass Elliot and her tour group stayed at the flat while she performed solo at the London Palladium. Following a strenuous performance with encores, Elliot returned to the flat to relax and sleep and was discovered in one of the bedrooms, dead of heart failure at 32, on July 29, 1974. On September 7, 1978, The Who's drummer Keith Moon returned to the same room in the flat after a night out, and died at 32 from an overdose of Clomethiazole, a prescribed anti-alcohol drug. Nilsson, distraught over another friend's death in his flat, and having little need for the property, sold it to Moon's bandmate Pete Townshend and returned to life in Los Angeles.
