Of the 140 transcription discs we recently acquired from the estate of an antique radio enthusiast, these two are perhaps the most interesting. A fascinating one-of-a-kind piece of World War II history here, this is a pair of 16 inch radio transcription discs of the speech from the day the atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, 3 days after Hiroshima.

Two discs, one labeled “president truman’s report on Potsdam conference all networks aug 9, 1945 part 1” and a second labeled “2 - Truman speech aug 9, 1945”. The reverse side of the first disc says (3), so perhaps a third part is there. Uncertain if this set was used in actual distribution and broadcast of the event, or archiving of the speech.

Second side of second disc appears to be a second Truman speech 12-30-45. Mostly good condition; one notable scratch as pictured.

On August 9, 1945, the day Nagasaki was hit by the second atomic bomb, President Harry S. Truman delivered a speech (Potsdam conference) discussing the bombing of Japan.

This speech came just three days after the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6. In his address, Truman emphasized the destructive power of the atomic bomb and justified its use as a necessary action to bring a swift end to World War II and to save lives by avoiding a prolonged and costly invasion of Japan.

He reiterated the call for Japan's unconditional surrender, warning of further destruction if they failed to comply. Truman's speech underscored the United States' new military capabilities and marked a significant moment in the ushering in of the atomic age.

On December 30, 1945, President Harry S. Truman delivered a speech addressing the American people about the transition from wartime to peacetime and the challenges facing the nation. We acquired this disc in a large lot of transcription discs from the estate of a former radio enthusiast and dealer, and will be listing many others over time. Many of these discs rarely - if ever - come up for auction.
