A new sound has come recently to Hawaiian instrumental music-a blending of the already exotic Poly-nesian, with the strange and wonderful melodies that flow into Hawaii from the far lands that rim the big Pacific ocean.
Hawaii itself is a melange of the exotic.
To these eight islands have come waves of people from many nations, a mingling of east and west that would have surprised Mr. Kipling.
They brought with them colorful costumes and pungent aromatic foods- and exotic melodies played on even more exotic instruments.
This album is an extension of Webley Edwards' three previous Hawaiian instrumental albums, but with a difference.
This time he has gone to the fascinating places in Honolulu that make Hawaii such an exotic land-to oriental tea houses, to plantations and out-island village festivals, to little hideaways on the Honolulu waterfront, for odd melodies from other lands that have become a part of the Hawaiian musical scene, as have new ways of playing old favorites.
The Hawaiian Islanders have an inherent aptitude for string and woodwind and percussion, and a long tradition of adapting anybody's music to their own island style. So it wasn't long before
