Description
Here is a very nice copy of one of the most sought-after artifacts from the UK 'underground' scene of the late 1960's / early 1970's; namely a copy of the very FIRST pressing of the debut, 'self-titled' LP by the premier UK 'underground' band of all-time, namely the legendary HAWKWIND.
Issued on the classic 'blue' Liberty Records label in 1970, these early pressings are FAR scarcer - and therefore far more desirable - than the later second pressings on the 'black' Liberty label.
The album is in stereo, with catalogue number LBS 83348, and just to reassure you of it's 'first pressing' status, please note that the matrix numbers in the runout groove end with the all-important 'A1' / 'B1' numbering.
Condition of the record is STRONG excellent throughout. The vinyl shows only a few 'sleeve removal' rubs and a couple of barely visible whispy hairlines (only visible under bright light). It plays very crisply indeed, with strong, convincing audio throughout. There is the occasional tic or slight bit of background noise here and there, but this really is insignificant. I've heard brand new records that don't sound as good as this! I'm convinced this copy will satisfy practically any collector, especially as truly mint copies are now non-existant.
The labels have a few short spindle marks around the holes, but these are only visible if you hold the record at a certain angle to the light. Other than that, both labels look just SUPERB!
The matt gatefold cover is also in very strong excellent condition. There is a very small sticker tear top right (see pic) and a couple of minor 'pinches' to the spine, but it is still beautiful to behold! The inside of the gatefold is just superb. If it wasn't for the tiny sticker tear, we'd be talking near mint really. Wonderful copy of a wonderful cover.
Record comes complete with it's original polylined inner sleeve, which is also in excellent condition.
