THIS REALLY IS A BEAUTIFUL UK *COMPLETE* FIRST ISSUE AND A FINER COPY WOULD BE VERY HARD TO LOCATE INDEED - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
In Search of Space strengthened Hawkwind's science fiction-type brand of progressive rock, gaining bass player Dave Anderson and galactic poet extraordinaire Rob Calvert, while losing John Harrison at the same time. The album opens with the mind-numbing galactic haze of "You Shouldn't Do That," a spooky little 15-minute excursion that warps, throbs, and swirls with Dik Mik's "audio generator" and the steady drum pace of Terry Ollis. Then comes the ominous whispering of the title, set to the pulsating waves of Dave Brock's guitar and Turner's alto sax, with Dettmar's synth work laying the foundation.
Wonderfully setting the tone, "You Shouldn't Do That"'s improvisational looseness and rhythmic fusion smoothly open up the album into the realm of Hawkwind.
The peculiarity never ceases, as "You Know You're Only Dreaming" and "We Took the Wrong Steps Years Ago" delves even deeper into obscurity, sometimes emanating with the familiar jangle of the guitar which then has its acquaintance overshadowed by the waft of the keyboard. Just as "Master of the Universe" chugs and rolls with a foreboding rhythm, "Adjust Me" retaliates with its moaning verse and tonal fluctuations fading into oblivion.
The groundbreaking sound which Hawkwind achieved on In Search of Space helped to open up a whole new avenue of progressive rock.
Track Listing:
Side 1: You Shouldn't Do That / You Know You're Only Dreaming
Side 2: Master Of The Universe / We Took The Wrong Step Years Ago / Adjust Me / Children Of The Sun
LABELS: The labels are CLEAN and BRIGHT with NO unwanted marks/writing and only a couple of (mega) light spindles. THIS COPY HAS POSSIBLY BEEN PLAYED JUST A COUPLE OF TIMES AND IS IN ABSOLUTELY STUNNING CONDITION
VINYL Visual: The vinyl still retains its DEEP, LIKE-NEW, GLOSSY SHEEN and is completely UNMARKED. BEAUTIFUL, PRACTICALLY AS-NEW RECORD
VINYL Audio: The audio is OUTSTANDING THROUGHOUT - CRYSTAL CLEAR, VERY STRONG and VIBRANT PLAYBACK. FANTASTIC ATMOSPHERIC RECORDING. There are NO scratches, NO sticks/jumps, barely any clicks/pops (really, hardly any) and only some very, very light surface noise on the quite fade-ins to the first tracks on each side but this soon disappears and is very, very minor. The LP plays to an extremely high standard with NO groove-wear or distortion (its practically unplayed) and must be graded EXCELLENT++ for audio. BEAUTIFUL COPY AND A FINER FIRST PRESS EXAMPLE I DO NOT THINK YOU WILL FIND. NOT over-graded in ANY way as I use strict RECORD COLLECTOR grading standards (please refer to my feedback and 'About Me' page)
SLEEVE: The 1st issue non-laminated sleeve is in EXCELLENT condition - CLEAN and UNMARKED with very little edge wear, practically unrubbed surfaces and a fully legible spine. The fold over sections are SHARP and CRISP with just a little creasing and it looks like the tab has never been inserted into its slot. Beautiful example of this incredibly easily worn sleeve
LOG BOOK: This first issue log book is printed on thin textured paper in dark blue ink - some of the later log books are printed on standard paper in black ink, but this is the original and impossible to fake. It is in BEAUTIFUL condition. EXCELLENT
The original UA company inner sleeve is NEAR MINT - CLEAN, BRIGHT and FACTORY-FRESH with NO splits
