HOLIDAY INN RECORDS

We have had this record in our possession for several years, and every time we have tried to do research on it we have turned up very little. We are familiar with the band Load Of Mischief, and know they were a Memphis garage band originally signed to the Sun label. They have one known 45 which was originally released on a Sun 45 in 1967, number 407, and later released in 1968 on the Holiday Inn label, number 2205. In addition to Sun Records, Sam Phillips also ran the Holiday Inn record label during this time period.

However, the record we have here is a 1960's hand-labeled Holiday Inn record number 2212, which does not appear in the Discogs Holiday Inn records discography. Our best guess is that it would have been from 1968, according to the record number and other listings in the Holiday Inn discography.

One side of the record we know is titled "Baby You Got It", as we located a recording of this song on the internet. We also found out that this song was comped on the 1987 Japanese LP titled "Early Memphis Sounds". The website we found shows just a plain Sun Records image, and the mix we heard is quite a bit slower and more toned-down than the Test Pressing we have here, which has a livelier and faster sound and is likely a different recording. We are also unsure if the recording we found online was sourced from this comp LP or from another source.

The other side we were not able to find and do not know the name of, and it is for sure the rarer of the two sides. It is also, in our opinion, the better of the two songs as it has some prominent time period great organ sound and is just an overall exceptionally solid piece of garage psych music.

Both clips were recorded from the actual record being offered here, with no filtering or enhancing of any kind.

VINYL: Overall the record is nicely preserved, but two things keep it from grading a nice VG+. First, on Side A there is one horizontal scratch not far from the beginning that causes a tick for a handful of revolutions, and possibly a couple of skips. This area is in the sound clip, and we cannot really tell if there is just a ticking noise when the needle passes through this spot or if the record actually skips a couple of times. Second, on Side B there is a vertical scratch at the beginning that goes about an inch into the record, however it causes only a minor sound when the needle passes through it and definitely does not cause any skips.

All of our LP's are shipped in sturdy cardboard LP mailers with appropriate padding.

With the exception of sealed LP's, all LP's are removed from their outer sleeves to prevent seam splitting. Upon request, we will give your sealed LP's the same treatment.

All records are carefully graded. In an attempt to give customers an accurate impression of condition rather than adhere to somewhat arbitrary criteria, The Great Escape gives an "overall presentation" grade; we do not give a "listening" grade. Our vinyl listings are supplemented when necessary with additional remarks. For example: where some dealers will not allow a cut corner on an otherwise near mint jacket (often automatically relegating it to a VG+ at best), we may grade such a record as NM and note the cut-out mark (thereby letting you know what it "really" looks like: a near-perfect record with a cut corner). LPs are graded cover first, followed by the grade for the vinyl.
