HEDGEHOG PIE –The Green Lady ORIG Rubber Records LP // RUB 014 (UK, Stereo, 1975)
Here we have the best and most sought after of Hedgehog Pie’s albums. ‘Green Lady’ from 1975 is a superbly executed set of electric folk and I can bring this copy to you in quite spectacular shape – both sleeve and vinyl.
The outer laminated gatefold sleeve was manufactured in England by Clout & Baker and is a really close to pristine example. There are no creases on the front panel with only a couple of tiny ones on the rear. NO writing, NO tears, NO ring impression. Superb non-compressed spine. Fully defined, sharp corners. Tiny nick to the bottom edge but overall this will surely delight the most demanding collector of fine sleeves. Grades M- (Mint Minus). Opening edges are sharp without feathering and inside gate is fresh with strong colours and no creasing. Super example.
The record labels are in perfect ‘as new’ shape. No writing, dirt or residue and I only picked up 1 single spindle trail to the centre hole. Fine labels.
The medium weight, square edged vinyl is as you’d want it. Pretty much blemish free. One light, short scuff to only the one side is all I can see. Except for this an unmarked disc, seldom played. So that’s NO scratches, hairlines or embedded dirt. Visual grade; M- (Mint Minus). Maintains great shine and sits flat on the deck.
IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY LISTENED TO and plays very well. NO snap, clicks or pops. No ticks (none!) or hiss. There is an absence of distortion and no groove wear to cause clipping or loss of definition. Listening closely, there’s a hint of surface – most likely from the independent pressing but this never impedes upon the music. Overall the play grade is very close to the visual one and comes across loud and clear.
Rare UK folk in top shape. A better copy will be hard to find. Truly!
