PLEASE NOTE: I NO LONGER SHIP TO ITALY (SEE NOTE BELOW)
ATTENTION CANADIAN BIDDERS: YOUR SHIPPING RATES WILL BE LOWER THAN THE BLANKET “WORLDWIDE” RATE. A single 7”EP costs only $2.50 US to mail to Canada and a single LP only costs $5.70 US so please disregard the higher International prices stated below- sorry for any confusion.
YEAR: RECORDED 1978 / RELEASED 2003
LABEL: DEAF EAR RECORDS
MATRIX #: U-56009M (Disc 1) / U-56010M (Disc 2)
VINYL CONDITION: (EXCELLENT)++
SLEEVE CONDITION: EXCELLENT
INSERT CONDITION: NEAR MINT
HELEN KELLER released only the ultra-rare (and sleeveless) “Surfin With Steve and E.D. Amin” 7” in 1978. The band was “rediscovered” when that songs was included on the KILLED BY DEATH #999 comp LP in 1999. The band remained a big mystery, though, until it was discovered that Helen Keller was a studio-only band that was the brainchild of a Seattle man named Norman Durkee who produced commercial jingles(!?) for a living. “Surfin With Steve and E.D. Amin” appeared- oddly enough- in an Isuzu commercial from the early 2000’s. Then in 2003, this very LIMITED double 7”EP was released that contained not only the original 1978 7”, but two totally UNRELEASED killers and an alternate version of one of the 7” songs.
I am the original owner of this record, bought it NEW right when it was released and have only played it about 5 times (this includes once to grade it here for sale). There are a few visible scuffs on both discs but they DO NOT affect play. The vinyl is very close to NEAR MINT, but one very quick vinyl “pop” (but NOT a skip) during the ending fade out of “Mein Death…” causes me to grade it as (Excellent)++.
The foldover sleeve is printed on nice, thicker grade of paperstock. The sleeve is NEAR MINT aside from a rumple along the bottom spine of the sleeve, which was this way when I bought it new and was caused by having both thick discs mailed to me inside of the picture sleeve. Other than that, the corners are sharp and there is NO ringwear or other issues to speak of. Like the label name (Deaf Ear), the sleeve keeps with the Helen Keller “theme” by having the band name written like in an eye test pattern and a pair of broken glasses on the back of the sleeve. Joker, this sleeve artist was.
Also comes with a small, two-sided insert that is in NEAR MINT condition. The insert has great, extensive liner notes with a history of the band and an appreciation of their sound from FAN/uber-collector/super sleuth Ryan “Ryebread” Richardson.

THE FINE PRINT
GRADING
For all of the vinyl that I sell I record a copy onto my computer using my Pioneer PL-514 turntable, which is a vintage 20+ lb. durable workhorse from the 1980’s. I then analyze this rip with my sound editing software- I have found it to be a great way to find any issues, imperfections, etc. that may stand out (rather than just putting on the headphones and listening to a record the “old fashioned” way). I try my best to be as accurate and honest as possible about vinyl condition in my item descriptions. Please also know that my house is a smoke free environment.
BIDDERS
Here are a few stipulations that I have been forced to set up with my auctions. First- due to previous headaches I have had with “new eBay members”, you CANNOT bid on my auctions if your feedback rating is less than less than 0, if you have 2 or more unpaid item strikes within the last 30 days, and if you have 4 or more eBay policy violations within the past month.
SHIPPING
I NO LONGER SHIP TO ITALY: I have also had too many headaches and problems shipping items to Italy (it’s been said for years that they unfortunately have the worst Postal Service in the world, and I now see why). So sorry potential Italian bidders, but no can do.
Payment is preferred through PayPal and is due within 5 days after the auction ends (my auctions always begin/end on a Sunday so therefore payment must be received the following Friday). Postage prices are the responsibility of the winning bidder of course. Within the United States record will be shipped by either Media Mail or Priority Mail (your choice). For international, non-U.S. bidders this record will be shipped via USPS First Class Mail International. Please also note that most times, I provide SAME DAY shipping once your payment clears.
ATTENTION CANADIAN BIDDERS: Your shipping rates will be lower than the flat International rate in the below table. A 7”EP costs only $2.50 US to mail to Canada and an LP only costs $5.70 US so please disregard the higher International prices stated below- sorry for any confusion.
I DO NOT ATTEMPT TO MAKE EXTRA MONEY FROM SHIPPING COSTS like some other sellers try to. It honestly costs $6 to mail a 7” to most of the world from the U.S. and an LP honestly costs $12 to mail to most of the world. An LP costs twice as much as a 7” because- all packaged up properly and securely- an LP weighs over 1 lb. and as soon as packages are above 1 lb., the Postal prices nearly double unfortunately. As stated in the previous paragraph, Canadian shipping rates are lower but the automatic postage calculator lumps Canada in with the rest of the world since it is not in the U.S. Canadian bidders- sorry for any confusion! E-mail me with any shipping questions you may have.
SHIPPING DISCOUNTS WILL BE APPLIED FOR WINNERS OF MULTIPLE ITEMS THAT END ON THE SAME DAY! If you win multiple items from me on the same day, I will send you an invoice after the auctions end with this shipping discount reflected in that invoice. I also usually provide shipping discounts if you are a returning customer. Severe shipping discounts are provided by my determination if the final bid is rather high and over a certain amount. Again, if this is the case I will send you an invoice after the end of the auction that reflects this shipping discount.
And please note that when I ship records, I take great care to make sure the record is packaged properly- I always separate the picture sleeve from the vinyl and secure them tightly and securely with plenty of cardboard to prevent any damage that could happen in transit. As reflected in my feedback, most of my customers comment on how well I package sold items.
