What you are bidding on is a super rare pressing of HELEN MERRILL: HELEN MERRILL. This jazz rarity is on the EMARCY *(MERCURY) RECORDS label from the USA. If you need this LP, this is the one. Beautiful. This is from a hoarders collection, that was well taken care of. This is a deep groove mono first pressing of this classic jazz vocal lp. I've played this, and it plays a strong VG+. There is a few ticks and pops, but nothing that overpowers the music. Its a nice lp and a bugger to find. This is the original mono 1954 pressing, not a reissue.
Probably one of the best famous EmArcy albums - Helen Merrill's first 12-inch LP on EmArcy label. The arrangements by Quincy Jones are very accurate and appropriate for the players on this album. Her singing is also fascinating and awesome (as Sarah Vaughan did on her first 12-inch EmArcy LP), but unlike Sarah, Helen Merrill shows a very distinctive tone, a husky timbre and natural delivery that is unlike anyone else.
Also, the performances by Clifford Brown are also superb. But please remember that this album's highlight is (of course) Helen Merrill's awesome singing and Quincy Jones' appropriate arrangements. Although Clifford Brown contributed so many at the session, this great album couldn't be complete without her voice.
A superb album with no doubts. A masterpiece.

About the used lps. We visually grade these, we don't have the time to play all we sell, we sell hundreds a week. In most cases we grade NM lps as VG+ to be safe. If I put "It looks unplayed" then it is probably unplayed....If I put NM, someone will find a piece of dust and complain....

A lot of people are asking me what color the pics are on the back, they are blue and white.
This lp has been played, but I'd give it a VG+ in my opinion. It has a few light scratches, but nothing deep. The vinyl is shiny black, not milky white.
