Description
Description: This item is a 10 inch aluminum base acetate disc that probably was recorded professionally based on the overall fidelity. It is recorded at 78 rpm. I personally obtained this disc from the Helen Ward estate.
Artist: Vocalist Helen Ward accompanied by the Buddy Weed Trio
Tunes: Nice Work If You Can Get It / I've Got a Crush on You
These performances are taken from the WABC-TV Program Opera vs Jazz broadcast on 27 July 1953. This was just 3 weeks after Helen recorded her first album under her own name for Columbia Records.
To the best of my knowledge and after checking various discographies, these are unissued performances.
Disc Condition: The disc visually grades VG / VG- condition with surface scuffs and scratches. There is inherent acetate surface noise which is audible throughout both sides. The first side has a prominent scratch which sounds for the first 12 revolutions but does not affect tracking and only occurs during the beginning of the announcer's program introduction. The recording fidelity above the surface noise is very good. The second side is VG- due to a bit more wear and this side gets progressively noisier but again the fidelity above the surface noise is very good. There is no peeling or flaking of the acetate.
