Description
The rumour has never gone away (and it's been persistently denied by the supposed protagonists) that this album was recorded by Jon Lord, Ritchie Blackmore and Ian Paice before they formed Deep Purple. I don't know, but the music is hauntingly familiar. The record is 'Supreme Pschedelic Underground' by Hell Preachers Inc. on the UK Marble Arch label (catalogue no. MALS 1169) from 1969. It's a stereo recording. It's a mainly instrumental album with some fine guitar work. The flipback sleeve is laminated on the front and is in fine condition with some minor creasing but virtually no ring wear. The edges and spine are in excellent condition with no damage and the wording along the spine is 100% readable.the flipbacks are in almost perfect order with no damage. The rear of the sleeve shows some slight discolouration. I've graded the sleeve as Ex. The record plays superbly on both sides with minimal surface noise and the very occasional click. The record has been well played and there are some spindle marks on both sides. The matrix numbers on the run-off grooves are - side one - MALS 1169A-1 *T - side two - MAlS 1169B-1 *T. The record has been graded Ex-. This record is becoming increasingly rare. It should be snapped up by a serious prog psych collector. The question is - will we ever know who really was responsible for the recording of this fine record because there are no clues on the sleeve?
