Offered is Handel Concerti Grossi for String Orchestra, Op. 6 (Complete), English Baroque Orchestra conducted by Hermann Scherchen, on Westminster Label WAL 403, 4 X LP's.

THE VINYL:  All 4 discs in this set are in NM condition, with glossy vinyl & clean bright red labels. The stampers are as follows:

   Disc 1-  1H / 1G

   Disc 2-  1A / 1C

   Disc 3- 1AA / 1B

   Disc 4-  1F / 1B

THE "PORTFOLIO STYLE" COVER:  EX : There is some edge & corner wear; the spine is intact with some fraying; the manila style pages for the LP's are all in fine shape & each disc has a plastic sleeve.

"The concerto grosso (Italian for big concert(o), plural concerti grossi) is a form of baroque music in which the musical material is passed between a small group of soloists (the concertino) and full orchestra (the ripieno or tutti). This is in contrast to the concerto which features a single solo instrument with the melody line, accompanied by the orchestra.

"Corelli's concertino group was invariably two violins and a cello, with a string section as ripieno group. Both were accompanied by a basso continuo with some combination of harpsichord, organ, lute or theorbo. Handel wrote several collections of concerti grossi, and several of the Brandenburg Concertos by Bach also loosely follow the concerto grosso form."
