Original 1969 single by the High, "Long Live the High" b/w "Beggar Man Dan" on the UK CBS label.  I know every seller claims what they're selling is "rare", but I can personally vouch that this one's extremely hard to find - this is only the second one I've seen in the five years I've been looking for it.  Been dying to hear it myself ever since reading about it on the Sweet Floral Albion site (a pretty glowing review, calling it "an absolute beauty"), but after years of searching, I began to doubt it even existed.  But here it is, and it's even better than SFA described.  "Long Live the High" is indeed an absolute beauty, an ethereal floating Fading Yellow type English pop song with gorgeous flying mellotron and a wonderfully catchy melody.  Fans of the UK Nirvana and Clouds will welcome this one with open arms.  The flipside is just as good, a bit chunkier and more popsike/freakbeat than the pure pop A-side - instead of Fading Yellow, you'd more likely find "Beggar Man Dan" on a Rubble or Great British Psychedelic Trip compilation (it's not, though, I've already checked).  Once again, the High boys come up with a super catchy melody, and a riff that's about one note away from a lawsuit from the Lemon Pipers.  Again, the soaring Moody Blues mellotron shows up to lift the chorus into the stratosphere.  Great tunes on both sides - makes you wonder just who "The High" really were to have come up with such amazing songs.  Well, a check of the songwriting credits shows it to be Tommy Moeller and Russ Ballard, who co-wrote the A-side, while Brian Parker co-wrote the B-side.  All three gentlemen were in the Unit 4+2, and when this single was released in 1969, the Unit had just broken up.  I would imagine bigger things were planned for The High with such a talented lineup, but alas, they only released this one, very rare single.  And it wouldn't be long before fame and fortune called Russ Ballard away to Argent.  This original pressing is stamped "BBC Gramophone Library" on both sides, so it's most likely been filed away in a record vault somewhere - it's in pristine shape, and plays strong VG++.  Original 1969 UK pressing on the CBS label.  Winning bidder pays $4.00 shipping in the US, $5 to Canada, $6 everywhere else.  Paypal, Bidpay, cash, checks and money orders accepted.  Please check out my other auctions for more obscure singles.  I will combine shipping costs on multiple wins.
