Description
"HIGHWAY HI-FI 16-2/3 RPM RECORD MADE BY COLUMBIA RECORDS FOR CHRYSLER CORPORATION - TO PLAY IN THE DASH MOUNTED RECORD PLAYERS THAT CAME IN SELECT CHRYSLER MODELS!
The record is Broadway soundtrack of "KISS ME, KATE", by special arrangement with RCA Victor, with Alfred Drake, Patricial Morison, Lisa Kirk, Harold Lang, etc.. pressed on both sides. 6-7/8" record, plays at 16-2/3 rpm (the slow speed prevents the needle from jumping when playing it while driving in the car!). Purple label, with "HIGHWAY HiFi". Record number is MR 18.
Includes the original sleeve, with "HIGHWAY HiFi. A HIGH FIDELITY RECORDING MANUFACTURED EXPRESSLY FOR THE CHRYSLER CORPORATION BY COLUMBIA RECORDS. This record is made for use only on the Highway Hi-Fi player in automobiles. It should not be played on other machines equipped with standard or microgroove needles".
The back of the sleeve has liner notes, and instructions for storing the record in the special compartment in the car. Includes: "In order to insure long-life and continued enjoyment of this record, when not in use, make certain that it is always inserted in this sleeve and placed securely in the storage compartment provided under the machine. Since the machine only holds six records, and, as you will be adding to your collection, you will wish to obtain the special storage case with space for some twenty-five records. These storage areas will protect your records from warpage in the event of undue heat."
A scarce and unusual record and sleeve - and very scarce 50's automobilia - a really cool Chrysler innovation - a car record player!
The record is VG. The sleeve has a seam split at right, and is VG.
