HIM Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights hails from 2017 and is a limited edition Picture Disc LP (blackened UPC).  Alternative rock phenomenon HIM have been a band for 23 years, releasing 8 studio albums to date, of which their fifth album Dark Light was certified gold by the RIAA, making them the first Finnish band to have a gold album in the United States. They have had five of their studio albums verified platinum in Finland with Razorblade Romance being certified double platinum in Finland and platinum in Germany. Now The End Records will be offering remastered vinyl reissues of the band's trailblazing early catalog in standard and deluxe configurations including Greatest Love Songs Vol. 666 (1997), Razorblade Romance (1999), Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights (2001) and Love Metal (2003).

HIM’s 3rd studio album and first to reach the Billboard Top 200, features the single “Pretending”. "Of all of HIM's albums, Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights possesses the biggest contrast between dark and light. There may not have been as many entombed emotions and vampire hearts to be found here, but Valo's sensual delivery and poetic words still dove into an ocean of romantic darkness, albeit with a hopeful light shining through on tunes like "In Joy and Sorrow" and "You Are The One"

When thinking back to heavy music and the 1990's, it's easy to just neatly summarize it up as grunge...and then nu metal. But we mustn't forget that between the two, several metal bands "went goth" - tops being Type O Negative and of course, HIM. And HIM frontman Ville Valo certainly succeeded in putting his own unique spin on dark imagery and vampirism on his band's debut full-length, Greatest Love Songs Vol. 666.

If it’s possible to pick a “definitive” HIM album, Love Metal would certainly qualify. Recorded in the autumn of 2002 at Helsinki’s Finnvox studios with producer/engineer Hiili Hiilesmaa behind the board, the album plays firmly to the band’s strengths. Goth-flavored atmospherics? Meaty riffs? Expertly-crafted arrangements? Instantly-catchy choruses? Operatic despair? It’s all here, most notably on the album’s three classic singles: “Buried Alive By Love,” which opens the proceedings with a roar, and proceeds to ratchet up the intensity from there, and “The Funeral of Hearts” and “The Sacrament,” both of which beautifully pair Ville’s lovelorn baritone with the band’s innate ability to switch gears from delicate to muscular with the flick of a cigarette ash.

By the time HIM released Razorblade Romance in 1999, its fans were well-versed in the band’s oeuvre, as well as its lyrical fascination with love and death. Its first official full-length album, 1997’s gothic-kissed Greatest Love Songs: Vol. 666, focused on the agony of pining after the object of one’s desire, a person whom Valo frequently beckoned to join his side. The tightly intertwined themes of amour and mortality remains strong on Razorblade Romance. But instead of longing for affection, the lyrics also detail the unexpected results of capturing someone’s heart: The union that finally occurs doesn’t live up to the expectations of countless lovelorn fantasies, and being emotionally abandoned by the person who’s lying in your arms perpetuates another cycle of mortal pain.
