Description
This is a double-sided 78 RPM 10" TEST PRESSING on Hollywood Record (no matrix #'s) by an unknown male singer and pianist. At the bottom of the record labels you'll see the individually penciled letters "C" and "D". As you'll hear in the clip below, it seems that the first song on the A- side is When You And I Were Dancing and it seems to be somewhat of a medley, but I just don't know the songs, and the B-side I can at least determine that it has a couple songs that Al Jolson made famous - It Had To Be You and My Mammy. If you do happen to recognize the song or artist, and can provide further info, please drop my a message, so that I can update the info in this auction for everyone's benefit.
PLEASE NOTE: I have over 30 ACETATES and TEST PRESSINGS up for auction this week! This is from my personal collection, which I've built up over the last 20+ years, and this is the first time I'm ever offer these for auction, so here's your one chance to get your hands and ears on some real rarities. With that said, please make sure you check them all out! If you win multiples, I'll combine them into one package to save you $$ on S/H!!!
Keep in mind that the record pressing process runs like this: the mix is laid done to a master tape; then a metal core acetate pressing is made to check the sound mix; then the test pressing is made for final mix approval by the band, producer and record label, as well as for urgent release to the handful of toppermost of radio airplay outlets; then promo copies are pressed and sent out to the full radio airplay list; and then the commercial copies are pressed and sent out to the stores. As you can imagine, test pressings are so close to the pure, high fidelity sound of the master tape, as so few plays of the master tape have occured and therefore the TEST PRESSINGS are RARE and sought after!!!
The vinyl on this TEST PRESSING is in good condition and plays solidly, but with some light scuffs/scratches/sleeve marks/noise hear and there, which doesn't effect the play or enjoyment of this disc. There are NO chips/flakes to the surface of this 78 RPM TEST PRESSING. I didn't attempt any physical cleaning on this fragile Acetate, for fear of damage. If you wish to physically clean it or even import it into your computer to edit it to make it sound pristine, I'll leave that up to you. You can hear sound samples of the side/song below, which is from the actual record in this auction, and you'll notice that I've given a few distinct samples from different sections of this acetate to give you an idea of condition, sound and mix. Please see the photos below to view the label condition. This is a really RARE & COOL /test pressing collectible, make sure you bid today!!!
