Horace Parlan “Movin’ and Groovin’” Blue Note 4028 RVG Original Vinyl.
This is the 1960 RVG-stamped, Deep Groove, original edition of Horace Parlan’s “Movin’ and Groovin’” on the 47 West 63rd NYC labels of Blue Note BLP 4028. “P” or “ear” in deadwax. Musicians include Parlan, Sam Jones, Al Harewood.
VINYL has surface noise, pops and ticks, ranging from low to medium-loud.
Both Sides have low-level repeating “swoosh” groove-wear present, but no distortion of instruments.
As with all Lexington to New York USA Blue Note pressings, imperfections do not detract from the music pressed in these RVG-cut deep grooves. Both Side 1 and Side 2 have several long marks, none feelable. Good gloss both sides. Deep Grooved labels are clean, each shows “2” written in ink next to “33 1/3.” Instruments big, bold, dynamic, full of tone, clean and clear.
Laminated COVER is faded, top and bottom one-inch split seams at centers. Spine and seams largely clean without signs of wear. Laminate peeling right side jacket opening. Corners worn, inner carboard exposed. “43 West 61st St., New York 23” back jacket in very good condition, with minor fading.
This LP was play-tested on a high-end system consisting of Music Hall MMF-7.3 turntable/Ortofon Bronze cartridge, Heed Audio Elixir integrated amplifier, Heed Quasar Phono stage and Quad S2 speakers (with very revealing ribbon tweeters). Record cleaned on VPI 16.5.
