Description

Hot Rods and Dragsters in Hi-Fi LP album.

 

In 1959 I attended the drag races where this was recorded.  I acquired it some years ago when I was collecting hot rod related items.

 

This album was recorded at the fifth annual National Hot Rod Championship Drag Races held at Detroit (Michigan) Dragway, Labor Day Weekend, 1959.  With the cooperation of Wally Parks of Hot Rod Magazine and Tex Smith of the National Hot Rod Association, and all the competitors this album (RLP 5502) was recorded by Riverside Records.

 

Drag machines included on the record are the Arfons Brothers Green Monster, Masters’ Dragmaster, the Sidewinder, the Steel Eel, the Top Eliminator, the Lone Ranger, the Isky Special, the Lil Rebel, the Tennessee Bo-Weevil, the Lindley’s Misfire III, the Quincy Automotive Special, the Lil Kong, Fujimo, and many more.

 

The machines are identified on the back cover in sequence so you can follow them as they run down the quarter mile track.

 

On the cover is the dragster “El Diablo” in vibrant original colors.  The cover is in very good condition for its age.  The edges are all in tact and there are no stains on the jacket.  When I took the photos, the cover does not look exactly square.  IT IS!

 

The original $5.98 price is written in pencil on the back.  An ad for the album on page 99 in the March 1960 issue of Hot Rod Magazine comes with it.

 

The record is also in very good condition.  I recently played it through on my Sony turntable and heard no skips.

 

I take pains with packing.  However, I will assume no responsibility for packages damaged, lost, or stolen while in transit with the USPS, UPS.  Insurance to cover the "just in case" situations is available at the buyer's expense.
