Description

A great blues 78 from HOWLIN' WOLF. On the CHESS record label. The record # is: 1618. The song "Smoke Stack Lightning" is on side a. and on side b. is: "You Can't Be Beat". This record is in V+ to E- condition... (play & visually graded)... a partial gloss finish with some graying... but still a powerful, powerful play! What a voice! These old blues songs have a magic sound on 78 rpm... Wow! The labels are in E- condition, with no writing or stickers. A touch of ring wear around the spindle area. This is an often played, but well cared for record. I have just made a major purchase of ultra rare rock, jazz & blues albums! They were from Radio Station Promotion Manager Lester "Len" Miller and are from his personal collection. ***Priority is much safer and faster shipping for expensive items. *INSURANCE IS REQUIRED BECAUSE OF THE FRAGILE NATURE OF 78's.***

Chester Arthur Burnett (June 10, 1910 – January 10, 1976), better known as Howlin' Wolf, was an influential blues singer, guitarist and harmonica player. With a booming voice and looming physical presence, Burnett is commonly ranked among the leading performers in electric blues; musician and critic Cub Koda declared, "no one could match [Howlin' Wolf] for the singular ability to rock the house down to the foundation while simultaneously scaring its patrons out of its wits." Many songs popularized by Burnett—such as "Smokestack Lightnin'," "Back Door Man" and "Spoonful"—have become standards of blues and blues rock. Burnett is portrayed by Eamonn Walker in the 2008 motion picture Cadillac Records.
