Description

HOWLING WOLF Sings The Blues MONO repress of a original release of 1962. Recording originally released in 1951 and 1952 in Memphis Tennessee at KWEM Radio Station. Recorded for the Modern Label and released as singles on RPM, this is some of the very earliest Howlin" Wolf recordings before he joined the Chess Records roster. 
RAW and nasty, this recording features Willie Johnson on distorted guitar, Ike Turner on piano, Willie Steel on drums. The last song of each side features Joe Hill Louis the one -man-band on instrumental rockers.
This is for what I can tell, a repress from 1966 that used the older grey and black CROWN labels instead of the black and multi colored labels issued in the later 60's.
VINYL in VG+ condition, very nice with just a few light hairlines/paper scuffs. These CROWN pressings are notorious for pressing faults, and this one has the little bubbles on the surface, not very noticeable when playing. Also, when first issued, CROWN records came new WITHOUT AN INNER SLEEVE!! So it is a minor miracle this has survived in such good condition, and without the cover completely split.
COVER in VG+, very close to VG++ except for a 2" split starting on the top seam at the opening. No ring wear and very little yellowing or staining, NICE!!!

Notes

This version was released with the silver labels with black print, as came into use in late 1962.

The initial version looks like a Monarch pressing, while this version is most likely pressed at the Bihari pressing plant, so hardly dateable.
