HP Lovecraft's debut is precisely what you'd expect to hear with sixties psychedelic rock. But its just much better than most others. More sophisticated and refined in a way. Moreover, for 1967 this is quite an experimental and a very well recorded album. There are soulful, almost pastoral vocal harmonies (with some interesting choices when it comes to timing), some jazzy and folk influences in the instrumentation and the hauntingly beautiful 'The White Ship' hints at the progressive rock to come.

Together with the likes of The United States of America, The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band, The Doors and The Collectors this is top tier psychedelic music.
