LP
Original Jamaican LP from 1978 (Not a Greensleeves label reissue)……A Roots killer !!...... The record has light scuffs but the reggae cuts through OK. The unlaminated sleeve has age-wear but no major damage or writing.
Hugh Mundell, born in Kingston in 1962, had one of the most remarkable debuts in the history of reggae with this album, at the young age of 16.
All of the songs on this record where written and co-produced by himself, guided by the hands of Augustus Pablo. The most impressive factor are his passionate and conscious lyrics. His genuine voice is mellow and powerful at the same time, carrying his commitment and sincerity to the movement.
Additionally, "Africa Must Be Free" had an all-star line-up as background performers. Legends like Jacob Miller, Leroy Sibbles, Robbie Shakespeare, Chinna Smith, Leroy Wallace, Carlton Davis or Geoffrey Chung require no further comment, they simply grant a beautiful musical accompaniment.
Tragically in 1983, exactly the year he claimed Africa to be free, in an very sad coindidence he was shot and killed at the age of 21 while sitting in a car with Junior Reid.
