***THE HAFLER TRIO*** A CURE FOR KENOPHOBIA VINYL ON DEMAND BOX, VOUCHER, AND ALL FOUR HEAVY VINYLS NEAR MINT. ARCHIVE RECORDINGS MADE BETWEEN 1987 AND 1999. NUMBERED AND LIMITED !! A beautiful set! **Rigid boxset contains 4 x LPs with individual jackets plus hand-numbered certificate. Edition of 500** V-O-D grant a rare window of opportunity to survey the outlying soundscapes of extreme sonic cartographer Andrew McKenzie's Hafler Trio in this astonishing boxset. Whilst a fringe concern to most but the hardiest of electronic music travellers, The Hafler Trio have persistently explored the parameters of minimalist sound since the early '80s, funnily enough first as a duo between McKenzie and a Chris Watson fresh outta Cabaret Voltaire, and ever since as McKenzie solo - there never was an actual trio. h30's music inhabits a solitary plain and holds tight to a philosophic and conceptual sonic manifesto which has long attracted open-minded listeners. The project has yielded triple figure releases over the years for estimable imprints such as Touch and Die Stadt, including collaborations with Autechre (an incredible 2 hour DVD, highly recommended!) and Genesis P Orridge, but Vinyl On Demand have largely by-passed those existing releases here to explore the reams of unreleased material still languishing in his archive. It amounts to nearly four hours of complete and utter drone detachment, including one gobsmacking slab of serrated proto-techno and noise, making for something of a wet dream come true for these ears. And it's in this ostensible absence of conventional "music" that we're presented with a deeply seductive, enigmatic void, which is conversely flush with the richest timbral flux and worldly harmony, the sort of sounds that are omnipresent in everyday life but which we generally don't notice until a genius like h30 frames them as such for us. Like every other piece of his music we've encountered there's a purity of process from intent to execution in this package, from the music to the self-designed box artwork, which is bound to connect with listeners of a certain, insatiable disposition. Highest recommendation.(Boomkat)
