═══════════════════════════════════════════════ WHY THIS ONE — SCOTT LaFARO ═══════════════════════════════════════════════ An early studio date by Scott LaFaro, the most influential jazz bassist of his generation, recorded in 1958 and released in 1961 — posthumously, just after LaFaro's death in a car accident at age 25. Every LaFaro appearance is a collector target, and here he plays with the melodic, horn-like freedom that would reshape jazz bass. Paired with Harold Land's hard-bop tenor (his first recording with Hawes), Hampton Hawes at his bluesy, swinging best, and Frank Butler on drums. A West Coast quartet date with a heavyweight rhythm section.

Contemporary mono originals from this era are typically quiet pressings and this copy reflects that. No deep scratches, no skips. Graded conservatively.
JACKET: Very Good Plus (VG+) Solid and presentable. A few small ink letters on the front and rear cover, and light wear along the seams (not split) and edges, consistent with age — all pictured. No ring wear, no tape, no writing beyond the noted ink letters. An honest, clean VG+ jacket.
