Description
Columbia 33 WS 501 Dark brown label with gold text. The label identifies the record as 33 WS 1501. Recorded "live" in Koln (Cologne), Germany on May 28, 1954. 6 tracks. Collectively, a partial list of musicians includes Fatty George, alto sax, clarinet on 3 tracks; Wolfgang Sauer, vocal, piano on 1track; Albert Mangelsdorf, trombone on 1 track; Hans Koller , tenor sax on 2 tracks and more. The tunes are listed both on the front and back cover with the personnel listed on the back cover. ECO stands for Electrola Columbia Odeon Studio located in Koln. Notes on the back cover are in German. Very rare issue.
Cover: VG Soft European jacket, gatefold. The interior of the gatefold is blank (see scan). Record ring on the back cover. Light overall aging. Small tear by the "M" in JAM on the front cover.
Record: VG++ to Mint(-) Visually shows no wear. The record is a heavy pressing. There are no markings on the vinyl surface. Side 1, Track 1 ("Lester Leaps In") 4 clicks followed by 1 click and further on the Track, 1 light click. Track 2 ("I'll Remember April") 1 faint click with a light click further along the Track. Track 3 ("Idaho") 1 faint click with 2 faint clicks near the end of the Track. Side 2, Track 1 ("Sheik Of Araby") 5 or 6 clicks near the beginning of the Track followed by 1 faint click and further along the Track 2 very light clicks. Track 2 ("My Baby Done Left Me") 3 faint, isolated clicks. Track 3 ("Alexander's Ragtime Band) 2 light clicks. In general the sound is excellent. Particularly fine considering this is an early European 10" L.P. Audibly checked.
