This first Hapshash album reflect exactly the concept of Michael English and Nigel Waymouth . The music is reminiscent of the recordings of the Acid Test parties by Ken Kesey. However, the music is more structured and acts less messy. The backing band was ART who short time after these recordings changed their name into SPOOKY TOOTH. In London the new scene was some kind of more professional, from the beginning. The album yielded the ideal music for the upcoming underground clubs in the world. The LP is pressed into glow salmon red vinyl and the cover is reminiscent of the Acid inspired "Liquid Light Shows" as were shown on psychedelic concerts of the early years,at the "right" venues.
Hapshash & The Coloured Coat was a multimedia - projek of Michael English & Nigel Waymouth. Their success track began in 1966, when they designed psychedelic posters for the newly opened UFO Club in London. In this club were organized multimedia activities and has been the cradle of the London hippie boom . Michael English working at that time for the Underground magazines "International Times" and "Underground Magazine". Nigel Wamouth was co-owner of "Granny Takes a Trip" one of the trendiest boutiques, in which the Swinging London fit out . When the metamorphosis of the original Mod oriented London Scene in a new hippie culture took place rapidly, they began their different creative ideas and experiences on a overall approach to assemble. Psychedelic silkscreen posters, Underground -Happenings and experimental music were merged and aroused international interest in the rapidly emerging movement. In addition to the Scene in San Francisco, London was the other "pillar" of this new culture, with its many facets. When the hype died down at the end of the decade, the project has been "laid to rest"
Vinyl: “Very Good“.
Vinyl: "Very Good". The LP has its history and that has left some traces. There are some “hairlines” and surface scratches recognizable but look much worse than they are. Some crackling in the mid volume range in the lead in groove, on quiet parts and between the tracks is audible. The LP has been tested with headphones, listening over loudspeakers, the quiert noise is much less noticeable.
Cover: The lamination is still intact, but starts at the edges in some places to form "bubbles". Partly wrinkles are emerging and the corners are slightly bent. On the cover-spine the lamination has resolved on a 1cm long point, but the inscription is still legible. Otherwise, however, no cracks or other coarser damage on the cover exist. (See photos)
For those who are not too pernickety, can this very rare record, despite the errors, readily still bring a lot of fun.
