The Harmonics – ‘Be Your Man’ / ‘Scum-A-Doom-Doom’ – Seventy 7 102 (US)
Very rare and absolutely magnificent tune originally recorded in the late sixties. It has been reputed in various soul discussion groups that this disc features Cincinnatti recording artist James “Junior” McCants, famous for his Northern Soul classic ‘Try Me For Your New Love’ and the equally great ‘The Boy Needs A Girl’ (both relesed on King), but a reliable eBayer informs that The Harmonics were, in fact, a family group from Akron, Ohio. They later evolved into Gold Plate recording artists The Chicago Gangsters: James, Sam, Chris and Leroy McCant (sources vary as to the spelling of their last name; so, interestingly, does this record). Thus, there seems to be no connection. Sorry about misleading any early lookers; the reserve price has been lowered considerably and the Buy It Now option removed. Still, it’s a fantastic record! And this is a top specimen, a notch or two below near mint (full-length clips attached); if you need it, now’s the time to strike!Condition: Excellent (please listen to the clips).
