Harold Burrage – ‘She Knocks Me Out’ / ‘A Heart (Filled With Pain)’ – Vivid 101 (US)
Top tune from one of Chicago’s best loved artists. Backed by the Willie Dixon band, Harold Burrage originally cut this in 1958 for Cobra. This is an original Vee Jay-distributed Vivid issue from circa 1964, not a re-press. Matrix numbers: 6405 45-C-1032 189 (with 1032 lightly scratched out) and 6406 45-C-1033 189, respectively. I assume this means the Cobra stampers were re-used, six years after the fact! (Notice how Cobra label owner Eli Toscano now is listed as the composer; the original credits Burrage and one “Archie”.) Very hard to find in this nearly unplayed condition; a gorgeous copy, don’t miss it!
