Haymarket Square - Magic Lantern on Chaparral, crm-201 from 1968. I hate using the term mega-rare, but this record is just that. Recorded to accompany the Baron and Bailey Light Circus at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, Illinois, this is an incredible slice of early psych rock, with all the right elements. Powerful male/female vocals, and excellent musicianship make for a record well worth its reputation. Strong fuzz leads, and excellent well written songs. From what I've read, there were only 100 pressed, so this is a rare opportunity to own an original press. The cover however does have it's issues. As you can see, the previous owner did their best to repair some nasty water damage at the bottom of the cover. Not a bad job in my estimation, but the cover will have to grade as fair. It appears there was an effort made to stop the slick from flaking so it was touched up and clear taped over to prevent any further damage. Like I said, not a bad job, for the situation. The remaining cover is pretty nice though. The record is the better part of the package. It survived remarkably well. There is a bit of staining on the label on side two, and some wrinkling on the side one label, but not bad. I playgraded the record and was pleasantly surprised. The fidelity and detail are way above average for a private pressing. I used a modest entry level high end system and heard only an occaisional pop or click throuout the entire playback. Visually there are only the minimum of light storage marks or sleeve marks when viewed under a halogen lamp. A strong vg+ to ex appearance. Playback is the same. The only notable flaw is a short needle mark at the onset of the song Funeral on side one. It is a light click for several revolutions during the guitar intro, but fades away before the song really gets going. Otherwise, the rest of the LP displays only minimal imperfections, consistant with a private press. If you are in the Rising Storm, Bachs, C.A. Quintet bag, this is for you. If you have a good cover, and trashed disc of this original, this is a serious upgrade. Please, if you have any questions or reservations, email me first before bidding. RECORD GRADING: My records are visually graded only unless I state otherwise. Labels such as RCA, Capitol, Colpix, Atlantic, and  MGM were pressed on better quality vinyl and will sound better than a record which visually appears the same on labels such as Crown, Score, Diplomat, or Design. There may also be defects in the pressing which are invisible. An album on RCA graded Very Good plus (VG+) may sound far better than an album on Crown graded Near Mint (NM). All my sales are guaranteed and I will issue a refund if you are dissatisfied with a record. But don’t be surprised if a record visually graded NM  doesn’t sound more like VG.  Again, consider the label.  I will no longer accept bids from anyone with PRIVATE FEEDBACK!!
