Description
Blue Note 4013 mono by Jackie McLean: New Soil. Original USA deep groove, 1st pressing. Address on the bottom of the back cover reads: Blue Note Records Inc , 47 West 63rd St., New York 32. See above condition section and pics for details. Adding to the above description, Side 1 has 3 faint, shallow hairlines, about one inch long. These are visible by tilting the disc back and forth under the light. These don't sound. The disc in this package is very, very clean, with little play. The vinyl is far better than the cover. If one added a better cover to this disc, the overall value be increased several hundred dollars. All the visible cover problems are described or shown in the pics. Sound clips cover the areas on the first track on Side two that click. The rest of the sound clips are random parts of each side of the disc, including some of the in between tracks silent areas. This record plays extremely well overall, because it was handled carefully and played little in it 60 year past. This disc was thoroughly cleaned by hand, but would probably benefit from a machine cleaning..... For me, this LP is Jackie McLean in his prime, with his unexpected turns of phrase, and unique individual sound.... In America, as the hard bop era, and it's master players recede from public consciousness, McLean's individual conception remains fresh, and amazing to hear! He was a master of odd phrasing lines that still swung mightily. His tone was both sour or sweet. He played silences in a way that made his music funky and demanding, and very individual.....As time goes by I find myself elevating him higher and higher in the pantheon of great alto players. Cover VG+ Vinyl side 1 grade M-. Side 2 VG++.
Please listen to the unfiltered sound clips recorded from this record at 2 grams tone arm weight.
