Heart had a tremendous amount of success with their earlier albums Dreamboat Annie (1976) , Little Queen (1977), Magazine (1978) , Dog & Butterfly (1978) and Bebe Le Strange (1980) for Epic Records, but with the 80’s in full swing their success was waning and by 1984 their last two albums, namely, Private Audition (1982) and Passionworks (1983) had not charted well and the hand writing was on the wall with the relationship with their record label. In steps at just the right time Capitol Records who believed in Heart and offers them a record deal with a catch. With the last two aforementioned records Heart had been given creative control by their record label and the results weren’t chart topping efforts. Capitol had the idea to bring in outside writers and to focus on songs for the mainstream. They also brought in Ron Nevison (UFO, The Babys, Jefferson Starship, Kiss, Ozzy Osbourne) as producer to guide the band to success. Up to that point Heart had written their own songs except for a few cover songs. Long- story- short the recipe worked wonders and Heart (1985) went on to be one of Heart’s most popular albums with tight mainstream arena rock with excellent songwriting all to a driving beat of success. From the lively opener: ‘If Looks Could Kill’ to ‘What About Love’, ‘Never’, ‘These Dreams’ and ‘Nothin’ At All’ Heart was firing on all cylinders again and filling arena’s to capacity. There aren’t any throw away songs on Heart (1985); they are all cohesive rockers packing a punch. Moreover, Heart (1985) has gone platinum 5 times!
