Description

HENRY'S STRING BAND

(aka, BIG CHIEF HENRY'S INDIAN STRING BAND)

78 rpm, old time country string band

Victor V-40225, 78rpm, “Bluebird Waltz” b/w “Choctaw Waltz." Condition; Vg+. During one session in Dallas, TX in October of 1929 (Big Chief) Henry's (Indian) String Band waxed their entire recorded output of six songs. This is their first release, with HENRY HALL - fiddle, HAROLD HALL - banjo and CLARENCE HALL - guitar. Little or no information is readily available on what appears to be a family string band with Native American roots.

CONDITION:

The record is visually graded as Vg+ (arguably Vg++). The music plays very well, with minor scuffs and scratches, and with the usual hiss, crackle, and pop – nothing that greatly impairs play. The music plays well above the background noise. The record plays through well. (Standard Docks/JJJ grading used). Aural grade will, of course, vary depending upon the equipment it is played on. There’s a fair amount of gloss left on this one.

Please be advised that the label scan -- while showing an approximately accurate picture, tends to show a somewhat degraded image of printed words, occasionally shifts colors and picks up glare, and usually gives an image which is at least a half grade or more below the actual quality. Still, the scan will give an over-all sense of the label’s condition. HERE THE ACTUAL LABEL IS SHARPER, DARKER AND HAS BETTER CONTRAST AND FEWER FLAWS THAN THE SCAN WOULD INDICATE.
