Description
"Heroes and Villains" is a song by the American rock band The Beach Boys, co-written by the group's leader Brian Wilson and lyricist Van Dyke Parks.
Originally intended by Wilson to be the centerpiece of the ambitious but ultimately unreleased album Smile. Despite its early genesis, the recording of the song was a difficult and protracted process. Wilson halted work on the other Smile tracks at the end of 1966 and concentrated on producing a version of "Heroes and Villains" for single release. However, despite holding at least twenty recording sessions for the song over a period of several months and assembling several different edits of the track, he was unable to complete the work to his satisfaction until after the May 1967 announcement that Smile had been shelved. Sleeves were made for the 45, when it was apparent that Brian wasn't going to release the album Smile, Capital records gathered them up and had the sleeves destroyed. Several survived. Some were sent Eupope, restamped with ink euro cateloge #'s and used there Covering over the Capital #'s. This is the Original Heroes and Villains Capital 5829 sleeve, and it has survived. Original sleeves of Capital 5829 were rarely, if ever seen, accept by a few collectors. I bought mine sleeve without the record from Attomic records in Burbank, CA in 2002. I paid $120.55 for it as pictured in my receipt. I am relocating and am parting with some of my treasures. This sleeve is by far the nicest one you will find, if you find one. I call it near mint. A must for any true Beach Boys, or Brian Wilson Fan.
