Upsetters' "Let The Power Fall"
'The Upsetters' & Derrick Morgan cover Max Romeo's controversial hit riddim from 1972 "Let The Power Fall" with these two classics. As The Hippy Boys, the Barretts dive deep into dub instrumental territory with "Flower Power" while Morgan turns it into a reason to count blessings. The Hippy Boys began shortly after The Gaylads broke up, according to Max Romeo in David Katz book PEOPLE FUNNY BOY, The Genius Of Lee Scratch Perry. Soon the Hippy guys evolved to include the young Aston 'Family Man' Barrett and Carlton 'Carly' Barrett, the bass and drum brothers who went on to become Perry's Upsetter band in the late 60's which led to their involvement with Bob Marley, Peter Tosh & Bunny Wailer.Fams and Carly soon toured the world with Bob Marley through-out the rest of the 70s shortly after this disc came out. This rare release on Hop helps set that foundation while also keeping the powers at bay. With Glen Adams on organ, Reggie Lewis and Ronnie Bop on guitars, The Hippy Boys forged a reggae instrumental groove that's easily on par with Booker T & The MGs, their contemporaries in the soul music scene. Hopped up and dready to go, let the music fall on I and I.
