Performer Notes:
- Home Again is the debut album from Michael Kiwanuka, winner of the BBC Sound of 2012 poll. Ironically, the singer, songwriter, and guitarist's warm and intimate folk-soul sound resembles one of the early- to mid-'70s, as his composition style -- paired with Paul Butler's throwback production approach -- evokes comparisons to classic recordings by the likes of Bill Withers, the Band, Van Morrison, and Terry Callier.
Professional Reviews: Rolling Stone (p.76) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "Steeped in the unplugged soul vibe of Terry Callier, Van Morrison and the music Otis Redding didn't live to make....Michael Kiwanuka is a former London session guitarist who flashes a gentle spirit..."
Entertainment Weekly (p.71) - "[The album] blends warm vintage soul with the cozy acoustic vibe of West London's pub scene." -- Grade: B+
Billboard (p.52) - "Though his handsomely rough-edged voice sets you up for a set of mellow ruminations on love, the album ends up veering off in far trippier directions..."
Uncut (magazine) (p.80) - "[An] arresting, if low-key debut that confirms its creator's rapid ascent....This pensive debut gives notice of a fine new talent."
Format: Vinyl (1 Disc)
Country: USA
Studio/Live: Studio
Release Date: 12 March, 2012
Label: Polydor
