Description
Horace Silver Quintet "Further Explorations" 1958, BLP 1589
RARE Early Blue Note Recording at 47 West 63rd Street Address
One of Blue Note's loyalest performers (he recorded exclusively for the label after 1956), Horace Silver released this record as an early "exploration" with his quintet. The quintet includesArt Farmer, trumpet; Clifford Jordan, tenor sax; Freddy Kotick, bass; and Louis Hayes, drums. All songs but "Ill Wind" composed by Silver himself. Allmusic describes the album as "a solid, even striking outing,
and if it isn't maybe quite as flashy as some of its predecessors, it is no less substantive and revealing." This is one of the ultra-rare examples of Blue Note's earliest groundbreaking LP's. Numbered among its
characteristic features are the signature "ear" and RVG on both sides of the dead wax; deep groove on the center label; "47 West 63rd Street" address on the label. Too, this record is in near mint condition;
there are only a few very minor surface scratches on the vinyl, and the records sounds great! The label is in perfect condition, and the cover is pristine except for a past owner's name written in marker on the back side. An essential addition
to a knowledgeable collection!
