Up for sale is a great audio dramatization of a terrific children's book.  To the best of my knowledge, it is not for sale anywhere else!

NOTE:  This is a 33 RPM vinyl record!!  It is absolutely new and unplayed in unopened shrinkwrap!

This dramatization was adapted by Mary Spelman, directed by Leslie Corn, and narrated by Jerry Terheyden.  The cast included Flip Dumont, Lynn Forman, Win Forman, Stephanie Greeley, Alan Keys, Arnold Michaelis, and Dai Stockton.

Author Meindert De Jong (also spelled DeJong or Dejong) was born in the Netherlands and emigrated with his family to Grand Rapids, Michigan.  He graduated from John Calvin College.  He then worked on the family farm before starting to write books for children in 1938.  Hurry Home, Candy was written in 1953.  All told, De Jong wrote four books that earned Newbery Honors and one that earned a Newbery Medal.  In 1962, he was awarded the Hans Christian Andersen Medal by the International Board on Books for Young People, the first American to be so honored.

Hurry Home, Candy is the story of a puppy who is separated from his mother too soon and then is lost in a storm, becoming a stray.  He has a variety of exciting adventures.  Eventually, he finds a human being who provides him a secure home.  The back of the album jacket includes extensive Background Information, Word Study, and Follow-up Activities.  The Background Information includes sections on:  Strays, The ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), and Training a Dog at Home.
