I PAGLIACCI Complete Opera - Set of nine 78rpm records Studio Recording RARELY AVAILABLE An RCA Victor HMV release of the first electric complete recording of I Pagliacci
Victor M-76 Composer: Ruggiero Leoncavallo Conductor: Carlo Sabajno Recorded in Europe Date: 1929-1930 Victor imported early orchestral recordings made by its European affiliates, notably performances by the La Scala Orchestra under Carlo Sabajno.

Conductor Carlo Sabajno served as Toscanini's assistant during the latter's period as chief conductor at Turin. In 1904 he was engaged by Fred Gaisberg as The Gramophone Company's Italian house conductor with responsibility for all aspects of production, such as selection of repertoire and the engagement of artists, in addition to actually conducting in the studio. Sabajno devoted himself to the recording industry and seems subsequently to have conducted little if at all in the concert hall or opera house. Several of his recordings, most of which were made with the Orchestra of La Scala, Milan, at a time when Toscanini was musical director there, have stood the test of time.
The first electric complete recording of "I Pagliacci", with Alessandro Vallente opposite Adelaide Saraceni, Apollo Granforte, Leonildo Basi and Nello Palai. Strangely enough this recording was released on the "plum" label, although Granforte - a "celebrity artist" - normally recorded for the "red" label.
