THIS SPORTING LIFE/FIZZ (Jerden #747 1st pressing, 1965): CLEAN M- 45!


This RARE CLEAN M- 1st pressing is currently valued at $100 in this condition!  It'll sound great on your turntable, jukebox...or put it in The Vault!

Brit native Ian Whitcomb was playing in a Seattle coffee house in 1964 when he met Jerry Dennon.  Dennon thought Ian might be his entry in the English Invasion & Ian thought Dennon's Jerden Records might help him hit as big as The Kingsmen did with Jerden #712, Louie Louie.

Ian's band Bluesville hustled into a Dublin studio & recorded This Sporting Life/Fizz.  Ian gave gut-bucket blues Sporting Life a House Of The Rising Sun-type arrangement & a raw garage edge.  Jerry Dennon had Sonics keyboardist/vocalist Gerry Roslie add a Hammond track in Seattle & issued the single in early 1965.  It was an immediate hit on the west coast, but only reached #100 nationally when picked up by Capitol for its subsidiary label Tower.

A few months later Ian hit the U.S. Top Ten with his orgasmic novelty You Turn Me On.  He went on to a diverse 5-decade career performing & recording; he also wrote many wonderful books about pop music.  The world's a poorer place since he died in April 2020.
