Two years ago, I had the good fortune to buy the complete music collection of one of the two directors of the Australian label, Regular Records, including a huge storage space containing the entire Regular Records Archives. I sold a few odd items about a year ago, and the (huge!) balance has remained untouched...until now. It's time to get amongst it all and pull out some nice items...so here goes.

The Archives was loaded with master tapes, video masters, contracts, complete files on each artist...as well as mint copies of virtually EVERY vinyl, CD, and cassette release...PLUS...vinyl TEST PRESSINGS of every release...and this...is one of those test pressings.

Comes in plain white die-cut card sleeve...Has basic stamped info on each label.

This is a unique test pressing of a cut mastered in the UK at Tape One Studios by Denis Blackham (and pressed here in Australia at the Festival Pressing Plant). Blackham is famous (in the eyes of many) for mastering such artists as Human League, Eurythmics, Kraftwerk, Heaven 17, Tears For Fears, as well as the likes of Jethro Tull, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Buzzcocks, and Fairport Convention!

The matrix numbers, and inscriptions, in the run-off grooves on this are:

Side One: SMX65633   BILBOTAPEONE    ICEHOUSE-A2   6A  

Side Two:  SMX65634   ICEHOUSE - B2   BILBOTAPE ONE    

(Bilbo was Blackham's code name at Tape One.)

The matrix numbers on the officially released LP are:

Side One: SMX68103 -2   P2B 7   Side Two: SMX65634    P2A 3

Meaning: this is NOT the cut used/approved for the officially released album. 

The story goes that this was mastered and cut in the UK, and the pressing plates sent to Australia, where it was pressed up at Festival. What's unknown is why they didn't use this cut for the officially released LP.

There may exist others of this T.P. elsewhere (no doubt with band members/management), but I found only this one copy after rummaging through the entire Archives. I believe only 4 (as was the norm for Festival test pressings) were pressed but I couldn't find a file reference. In any case, you'd have to assume it's highly unlikely another copy may be offered for sale. I certainly have never seen another in many years of dealing in vinyl here (ie, since LONG before this LP came out.)

..postage costs come down considerably per LP/12" if you happen to win more than one...(for instance, to the UK/USA/Europe, etc., winning extra LPs/12"s means adding AU$6.90 extra postage for the second, and even less for a third....or AU$2.00 within Australia for each extra LP)...
