Working as a librarian I care about Media in all its forms - if the book/record/itemis a mess - you will know about it and see it, if it was a remainder orex-library book I will show and tell. Nonsmoking home....even if sometimes thecondition is less than ideal... just the covers are worth the cost.Some noise but not bad at all, lead in slight crackle that clears up - This a good demo copy no splitting, plays nice.

"In 1976, the Stooges had been gone for two years, andIggy Pop had developed a notorious reputation as one of rock & roll's mostspectacular waste cases. After a self-imposed stay in a mental hospital, asignificantly more functional Iggy was desperate to prove he could hold down acareer in music, and he was given another chance by his longtime ally, DavidBowie. Bowie co-wrote a batch of new songs with Iggy, put together a band, andproduced The Idiot, which took Iggy in a new direction decidedly different fromthe guitar-fueled proto-punk of the Stooges. Musically, The Idiot is of a piecewith the impressionistic music of Bowie's "Berlin Period" (such asHeroes and Low), with it's fragmented guitar figures, ominous basslines, anddiscordant, high-relief keyboard parts. Iggy's new music was cerebral andinward-looking, where his early work had been a glorious call to the id, andIggy was in more subdued form than with the Stooges, with his voice sinkinginto a world-weary baritone that was a decided contrast to the harsh, defiantcry heard on "Search and Destroy." Iggy was exploring new territoryas a lyricist, and his songs on The Idiot are self-referential and poetic in away that his work had rarely been in the past; for the most part the resultsare impressive, especially "Dum Dum Boys," a paean to the glory daysof his former band, and "Nightclubbing," a call to the joys ofdecadence. The Idiot introduced the world to a very different Iggy Pop, and ifthe results surprised anyone expecting a replay of the assault of Raw Power, italso made it clear that Iggy was older, wiser, and still had plenty to say;it's a flawed but powerful and emotionally absorbing work.

*FIRST (1ST) PRESS: These LPs are the very first to come off the production line and are made directly from the mother discs, the matrix numbers usually end in -1.

*MATRIX NUMBERS: These are numbers found etched into the vinyl between the final track and label. Each side should have a different number. They tell you when are where the LP was made, if the matrix numbers end in -1 it usually means they are 1st pressings.
